Have the big brands lost their edge?

Good morning, The Daily Tee Off here, the tenderloin of golf newsletters. Juicy and delicious. 🤤

  • Snippets - A short sharpe look into what’s being happening.

  • Spotlight - Rumbler.

  • Socials - I’ve been scrolling all day so you don’t have to.

Snippets

  • The new big 3?

Jon Rahm (1) - 4 Tour wins and 2 DP World Tour titles.

Scottie Scheffler (2) - 5 Tour wins which includes the Masters.

Rory McIlory (3) - 3 Tour wins, a Fed Ex Victory and a DP World Tour win.

Not a bad effort by the boys considering that’s just over the last 12 months of play. The Rolls Royce of marquee groups to kick off The Players Championship, it will definitely get my attention.

  • Adam Scott shows us his custom Miura irons and OMG if they are not the best looking irons your ever seen I don’t think we can be friends.

  • Kyoei - Pronunciation ?? Doesn’t matter the company can forge a golf club👌🏻 And to they gave a sneak peak into a new putter dropping this week.

Big manufacturers

The major golf manufacturers seem to be producing the same equipment year after year, with only minor tweaks and updates. It's like they're hoping we won't notice nothing much changes year on year but believe ever word the marketing team puts out.

So, the question you have to ask: Will it take a new company to push the industry forward?

Golf manufacturers like Callaway, Titleist, and TaylorMade have dominated the industry for years, producing everything from clubs and balls to bags and accessories. But despite their popularity, some golfers - including your main man here, are becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of innovation.

Another issue is that the prices - don’t get me started on the prices! It's like they expect us to take out a second mortgage just to keep up with the latest technology. I mean most golfers would be willing to pay top dollar for the latest and greatest clubs if you noticed a difference. But when you hit the course and don’t see any improvements, at all, you have to wonder if the marketing department won another round.

What we need is a new company with fresh ideas and innovative technology that could shake up the market and force the major players to step up their game.

It's worth noting that there are many smaller, lesser-known golf manufacturers that are already pushing the boundaries of innovation. These companies may not have the same marketing power or brand recognition as the major players, but they are still worth considering for golfers who are looking for something different.

Below I’ll link my favourite new comers, be sure to check them out.

Golf apparel is expensive or does it have to be?

About: It started with the excitement of buying new golf threads but ended in frustration and disappointment with being priced out.

We looked at over 25 global, well known golf brands and found that the average golf polo came to ~AUD$90. We had conversations with golfers and the majority agreed that more thinking and ideas should be put towards better access and affordability.

Our goal is to change the narrative of golf being labelled as an elitist sport. We want to provide a place that offers the most affordable apparel and golf experience.

Creative design helps golf connect to a wider audience. Clothing tells a story of who we are and that matters. It is a personal choice and we want to create apparel that makes golfers confident and comfortable.

Our focus is on ideas and solutions to make the game more accessible, helping the golfer and the game
