Spotlight - Modest Vintage Player

The Auckland-based label that's changing the game

About

Founded in 2015 by designer Josh Carmody, Modest Vintage Player (MVP) is a label that takes inspiration from the classics with its '50s-inspired collection of sport and athletics equipment. From golf accessories, baseballs, footballs, soccer balls and boxing gear, MVP offers everything you need to take your game to the next level.

But MVP is more than just functional gear. Each item is handmade in small batches with cowhide leather that develops an alluring patina with age. MVP blends retro aesthetics with performance-driven function, crafting luxurious sporting goods that double as rugged accent pieces for contemporary interiors.

The MVP mission is simple: to create the most beautiful and functional athletic goods and accessories in the world. The brand is committed to a return to the old school design and manufacturing process, avoiding cheap imitation materials and harmful chemicals for fine leathers and exotic timber. The MVP collection is handmade in small batches by artisans who have spent their lives learning the art of crafting beautiful and practical sports and recreation goods.

In a short time, MVP has developed into a recognised international sporting goods brand, with loyal customers in all corners of the globe. The label has partnered with some of the biggest retailers, collaborated with leading brands, designers, sporting organisations, athletes, and celebrities, and received accolades from world-renowned media outlets and publications.

  • PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan announced that Rory McIlroy will lose $3 million in bonus money for failing to meet his 2023 obligations in the new series of designated events. McIlroy missed the RBC Heritage, which was his second designated event absence, violating the rules of playing in at least 12 designated events outside of major championships and the Players Championship. Monahan confirmed that players are allowed to opt out of one tournament, but the second opt-out results in a 25% forfeiture of the bonus money.

  • Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Richard Bland have resigned from the DP World Tour due to serious breaches of the tour's Conflicting Tournament Regulation that they committed last June. They were sanctioned, including three-event bans and fines. These players were all members of LIV Golf, which held a tournament that conflicted with the DP World Tour's events. The DP World Tour had denied a request from members to participate in LIV Golf's opening tournament, resulting in the sanctions. To participate in the Ryder Cup, players need to be a member of the DP World Tour.

  • Jason Day has revealed that he has been battling vertigo in his recent competitions at the Masters and WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Day, who won the Wells Fargo Championship in 2018, has also been suffering from the condition since the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay. He believes it is brought on by the mental and physical stress of competition. Day has withdrawn from the RBC Heritage in order to undergo tests. He said that "it's a virus that attacks my inner ear, which is the vestibular nerve in the ear, so when that happens you can't get rid of a virus obviously, the only way you can do it is suppress it."

  • Jim Furyk has been named as the captain of the US team for the 2024 Presidents Cup by the PGA Tour. The 17-time PGA Tour winner will lead the US side for the first time after serving as a captain’s assistant twice and participating in the event seven times as a player. Furyk was also the captain of the US team in the 2018 Ryder Cup outside Paris. The 2024 Presidents Cup will be held at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada on Sept. 24-29, 2024, while Canadian Mike Weir was previously announced as captain of the International team.
