2023 Players Championship

Island Green 17th

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for The Players Championship held at the immaculate TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. With everything going in the golfing world, this is setting up to be an absolute thriller! There has been a lot of talk in the media lately about field strength with the LIV players cut from the door list. - And no not even your best friends mate that knows the DJ can get them in this time! But I can assure you there is plenty of talent teeing it up.

With the competition heating up and with last years champ set to watch from the sideline, will it be a seasoned veteran that rises to the top, or will this year's tournament be taken out by a new fresh face.

The fairways are pristine, the greens are immaculate, the stage is set and bloody hell I would not want to be teeing it up late Sunday on that par 3, 17th!

Good luck to everyone involved.

The numbers

  • The island green par 3 - 17th is always one to watch. Tournaments have been won or lost here.

  • A show of the level of difficulty, there have been 0 Back to back winners.

  • Jack Nicklaus sits on top of the winners list with 3 victories. 1974, 1976 and 1978.

  • Only 5 players have won it twice. Fred Couples, Steve Elkington, Hal Sutton, Davis Love III and Tiger Woods.

  • Greg Norman holds the over record with a score of -24 under par.

  • Controversial one to finish on. Do you believe it should be the 5th Major?

Take your game to the next level.

About: PAYNTR created by ex-professional cricketer David Edward Paynter and the great-grandson of England Ashes Legend Eddie Paynter. Cricket is steeped in the family heritage.

Eddie Paynter, Dave’s great-grandad was pivotal in England regaining the infamous 1932/33 “Bodyline” Ashes Series.

Eddie helped to turn the series on its head, guiding England to victory, despite a severe bout of tonsillitis. In the fourth test at The Gabba, with England struggling in the 1st innings, he discharged himself from hospital, took a few aspirins, washed down with a glass of champagne and hit 83 not out. In the 2nd innings, Eddie hit the winning runs, helping England retain the Ashes and was subsequently the first person to win a test and Ashes series by hitting a six.

THE STORY BEHIND PAYNTR

Frustrated by the current state of cricket footwear, Dave set out on a mission to create a running-style shoe built to withstand the stresses of cricket, with comfort and style in mind, something he felt was not currently being delivered in the current market.

“I used to get trainers spiked as a player and a lot of other players did too, there was an obvious trend that players just didn’t like what was out there. Everyone wants to look good, whether you’re on a night out or you’re playing cricket - footwear defines a person” David Paynter, PAYNTR Founder.

After working on it for 18 months, many trips back and forth to China, funded with his own life savings, Dave’s hard work and true Yorkshire grit came to fruition and investors began to come on board. Michael Vaughan was one of many to be impressed with Dave’s work and continues to hold a share of the business.
