Rickie chasing that top 50
Fan favourite and all out good guy Rickie Fowler is heading to the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship to try and qualify for the up coming Masters. Fowler, who has struggled with swing changes in recent years, fell out of the top 100 in the world at the end of 2021 but has since climbed to No. 59 after finishing with three top-10s and tying for 13th at the Players Championship. However, to qualify for the Masters, Rickie needs to finish in the top 50 after this week's tournament which is no small task. He would likely need to make it through pool play and into the final eight to earn enough points to move up in the rankings. Fowler acknowledges that his group over the next three days, which includes Jon Rahm, Billy Horschel, and Keith Mitchell, will be tough, but anything can happen in match play.
“I knew I needed to come here and play well," Fowler said. “I wasn't sure of exactly what I needed to do. The nice thing with the kind of world rankings and what's coming off, really, anything I do that puts points on the board is only going to move me up from here moving forward”.
“So my short-term goal is to obviously get myself back in Augusta. If that doesn't happen, we're going to continue to move forward and be in a good position."
Good news is if he stumbles this week The Masters holds one more spot for the winner of next weeks Valero Texas Open. 🤞🏻
PXG 0311 P GEN6, 0311 XP GEN6 irons
My 2 cents - At first, I wasn't sure about PXG’s new hollow body irons. Just like the name, I thought there was a little too much going on. But as I had them up on the iPad trying to figure out what to write, they have started to grow on me. As with most PXG clubs they do feature a busy design but they are a lot smoother then the old version. The overall shape, is basically identical to the Taylormade p770, with that cut away line down the centre. But to me it’s as if West Coast Customs got ahold of the 770’s and added some flavour to them. I do like them but still a little unsure. Let me know what you think. If you couple all the new tech inside plus the adjustability of the larger screws on the back these irons maybe hard to beat when it comes to performance.
Specs: Hollow-body construction with a forged 8620 carbon steel body and a milled back area, forged HT1770 stainless steel face, tungsten weights and internally filled with XCOR2 polymer.
Target player: The updated 0311 P and XP are for golfers who want a soft feel at impact with more ball speed and stability in a club that looks like a better-player’s iron.
Upgrades: PXG made the faces of the GEN6 irons thinner to increase ball speed and provide more distance. The 0311 P is a better-player’s distance iron, while the 0311 XP is a true game-improvement offering.
