The par 3 - 17th
Everywhere you’ve looked and everything you’ve read over the last couple of days, I bet they have mentioned something about the par 3, 17th at TPC Sawgrass. The “island green” even though its not exactly an island and to me looks more like a pair of 🥜 hanging low in the heat. I am wrong? Let me know if I am 🤔. Well at least all you had to do was read about it. These players had to play the bloody thing, in a tournament with money on the line and I mean BIG money on the line!
Fortunately for us it is a great viewing experience. It keeps you on the edge of your seat knowing that one mistake here and it’s going to swing the leader board in dramatic fashion.
Unfortunately for these 6 players, their mistake on the 17th cost them potentially a total of $3,082,000🤯 And to think I shed a tear after I put a brand new TP5 into the water!
Tommy Fleetwood - Finished T-27 earning $167,656. IF he had par he would have shot up the leaderboard 10 places to 17th earning $434,821. A $267,165 double bogey.
Taylor Monlgomery actually finished T-44 with a payout of only $75,036. If he didn’t card a quadruple bogey the bank cheque jumps to $434,821. That is a $359,785 difference.
Justin Rose - Finished T-6 after a double bogey netting $736,607 not bad hey? Wrong! His tournament payout would have been $1,325,000. A $588,393 loss in prize money.
Cam Davis - Double crossed himself putting it in the water leading to a double bogey. Costing himself T-3 and $588,393.
Max Homa - A crowd favourite finished T-6 bringing him a cool $736,607 but that double bogey cost him T-3 and $588,393.
Aaron Rai - First well done on the hole-in-one in round 2 (check out our Instagram reel to see it) but in round 4 he had the terrible task of putting down a 6 - triple bogey on the card. IF he had a par he would have finished T-5 earning himself $965,625 but instead he placed T-19 netting $275,000. That triple cost him $690,625!
