Four more on their way

The latest event of The Open Qualifying Series, known as the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open, saw four golfers secure spots in the prestigious tournament. Kensei Hirata, Keita Nakajima, Takumi Kanaya, and Kazuki Yasumori emerged as the leading quartet. In an exciting play-off, Hirata defeated Nakajima on the third hole to claim his first title on the Japan Golf Tour. Both players had finished the final round with impressive scores of 17-under, just one stroke ahead of Kanaya and Yasumori. Taiga Semikawa, already exempt for The 151st Open, showcased exceptional skills by carding a remarkable 63 on Sunday to secure fifth place.

Hirata and Yasumori will make their debut at the upcoming Open held at Royal Liverpool, while Nakajima and Kanaya bring their previous experience from participating in golf's original Championship. Kanaya, who has played in the last three Opens at Royal Portrush, Royal St George's, and St Andrews, will make his fourth consecutive appearance. On the other hand, Nakajima made his Championship debut in The 150th Open.

Notably, Kanaya and Nakajima have achieved similar accomplishments in their careers. Both have held the top position in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, won the Mark H McCormack Medal, and claimed victories in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

It's important to note that if a golfer who has earned a qualifying place becomes exempt through other categories before the closing date of entries on 1 June, their place will be awarded to the next non-exempt golfer on the reserve list for each event played before this date.
