Weekend Wrap Up
As the Players Championship continues this morning we are seeing a good mix of experienced and new faces. Scottie Scheffler made a solid start to the weekend carding a -5 under 31 front 9 while adding 2 more birdies at the 16th and 18th to give himself a 2 shot lead.
Min Woo Lee over coming illness has shown his mental toughness with a terrific -6 under 66 and finds himself within firing distance of Scheffler BUT this is when the real test starts. A strong start tomorrow will help put a little doubt into the mind of Scheffler and make things a lot more difficult for Tommy Fleetwood who sits 5 off the pace but not to be forgotten because he is also a proven winner.
We have seen 2 hole-in-ones so far at the par 3 - 17th. Round 1, playing in only the second group Hayden Buckley drained the first for the tournament, flying it just passed the hole with just the right amount of spin to roll it perfectly back and into the cup. 3rd round Aaron Rai, the double gloving Englishman dropped one with an almost identical shot, flying it over the top of the flag stick and spinning back into the cup.
With a scoring average of 3.03 the “island green” has given up 2 hole-in-ones, 27 birdies, 87 pars, 11 bogeys, 7 doubles and 2 others. Which includes 16 balls in the water.
Jordan Spieth currently sits in T14 at -6 under par but owes his weekend to a lucky bounce that saw his ball hit a fans knee and sail back onto the fairway allowing him hit a 248meter 3 wood just short of the green then go on to chip in and make eagle! Just Jordan Spieth doing Jordan Spieth things. I don’t know about you but if I was that fan I’d be asking for a little more then just a dirty old glove.

Round 4 is currently under way at the time I’m writing this but the leader board reads. The Spaniard Jorge Campillo began the weekend 5 shots off the lead but charged through the field with an outstanding 63 which contained 8 birdies, setting the early clubhouse target at -13 under par. Another strong performance like that and you’ll be sure he will be hoisting the silverware at the end of play.
Jorge Campillo -13
Jayden Schaper -12
Santiago Tarrio -12
Masahiro Kawamura -12
Eduardo Molinari -11
NZ PGA
21 year old Queenslander Louis Dobbelaar claims his 1st victory at the Gulf Harbour Country Club. The reigning Australian Amateur champion battled it out with Sung Jin Yeo, eventually overcoming him by 3 shots to claim his maiden victory. Ren Yonezawa -15, Michael Hendry, Justin Warren, Kazuma Kobori and Brett Rankin all -13 under rounded out the top 5.
